Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, will be hosting a Great Get Together event for the over 50s in the William Trigg Centre, Blaengarw on Friday 23rd June from 10am – 12.30pm. This free event will feature tea/coffee, cake and a wonderful performance from the choir at Blaengarw Primary School.
On the weekend closest to Jo Cox’s birthday – 23-25 June 2023 – ordinary people up and down the UK will unite their communities with Great Get Together events that bring people from different background together around a common cause. This has seen people supporting refugees, looking after a local park, or getting to know each other through crafting or gardening.
The Great Get Together celebrates what unites us and reject division, inspired by Jo Cox’s message that we have more in common than that which divides us.
Chris Elmore has previously hosted a Great Get Together in Llanharan as an afternoon tea, a virtual coffee morning during the pandemic years and in 2021 he organised a walk starting and ending in the Mem in Nantymoel with constituents young and old as restrictions eased.
Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, said:
“We must never forget Jo Cox’s words that ‘we have more in common than that which divides us.’ By hosting a Great Get Together event we can show our community spirit and our shared determination to build divides wherever they are found.
Across the UK there will be lots of events taking place to mark this weekend and I hope that our little event in Blaengarw will show just how amazing our little slice of Wales is! This event is completely free and open to all, but space is limited to 60 people.
If you are interested in attending, please do book in advance by emailing email@example.com or calling my office on 01656 860 034. I’m looking forward to sharing a slice and a cuppa with you and hearing the marvellous performance by Blaengarw Primary School choir.”
