On Friday 27th January 2023, Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, and the local Citizens Advice branch will be holding a Pension Credit Advice Day. This free event is open to all residents within the Ogmore constituency to attend to find out what money they may be entitled to from the UK Government.
It is estimated that circa 2,000 households in the constituency have not claimed Pension Credit despite being entitled to it. This is thought to be worth a whopping £5,153,739.
Pension Credit gives people extra money to help with their living costs if they’re over State Pension age and on a low income. Pension Credit can also help with housing costs such as ground rent or service charges.
Residents might get extra help if you’re a carer, severely disabled, or responsible for a child or young person.
Pension Credit is separate from your State Pension.
Pensioners can get Pension Credit even if they have other income, savings or own your own home.
Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, said:
“The cost of living crisis is hurting many people, none more so than our pensioners. When people have done the right thing, saved all their lives and paid their National Insurance Contributions it’s only right that they get support off the UK Government when they need it. Pension Credit is the extra support many are entitled to but few claim.
It’s a pleasure to join with our local Citizens Advice to host a free Pension Credit Advice Day. By doing so we can not only help pensioners in Ogmore access what they are entitled to, but we can also see if there is any other support on offer which they may be missing out on.
With an estimated £5 million of unclaimed Pension Credit being missed by Ogmore pensioners it’s only right that we take steps to support residents now. Not only is this needed to help people through the cost of living crisis, it will help pull money back into our community to help the local economy. I look forward to seeing lots of people at our advice day.”
