Welsh Labour MP for Ogmore, Chris Elmore, has called on the UK Government to bring forward more support for women facing job losses because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

During women and equalities questions in Parliament this week, Chris called on ministers to ensure that working class women in particular are not adversely impacted as the economic impact of the coronavirus continues to bite.

Research from the Women’s Budget Group has revealed that 43 per cent of working class women reported having their hours cut to zero during April this year.

Chris Elmore MP said:

“We were told at the start of this crisis that this pandemic was going to be a “great leveller”, but we now know that many people are being hit much harder than others. It’s clear that many women, and particularly working class women, are feeling the full force of the economic crisis which is enveloping our country.

In the crucial months ahead, I’ll be doing all I can to ensure that issues like this are reflected in the support both the Welsh Labour Government and the UK Government are providing.”
