Chris Elmore MP for Bridgend & Porthcawl has signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment, pledging to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January and remember the millions of victims of the Holocaust, alongside the survivors who continue to share their powerful stories.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, a significant milestone in the history of the Holocaust. Holocaust Memorial Day offers an important moment for reflection on the atrocities of the Holocaust and reaffirms our collective responsibility to stand against hatred, antisemitism, and all forms of discrimination.
The theme for 2025 is ‘For a Better Future’, and across the UK and beyond, schools, community groups, and faith organisations will be holding events to reflect on the Holocaust and its enduring lessons, while also commemorating the victims of other genocides, including those in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.
Chris Elmore MP said: “As we mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, it’s essential that we reflect on the darkest periods of European history. This year’s Holocaust Memorial Day offers an important opportunity for the people of Bridgend & Porthcawl to remember the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust.”
