Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has welcomed the report by the Equality and Human Rights Commission into Antisemitism in the Labour Party. He’s described this as “important moment in Labour’s history.”

In October 2020, the EHRC published a damning report into antisemitism in the Labour Party.

At that time, Keir and Angela were clear that we accepted the EHRC’s report in full and would implement all of its recommendations. We agreed an Action Plan with the EHRC in December 2020, and since then, we have worked tirelessly to right the wrongs of the past and to tear out antisemitism from our Party by its roots.

Today – 15 February 2023 – it will be announced that the EHRC have been satisfied with our progress and the significant changes we have made. Accordingly, the Action Plan has formally concluded.

Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, said:

“This announcement demonstrates we have turned the corner. However, the job of restoring the UK Labour Party is not complete. It shows we are heading in the right direction. We cannot and should not stand still on standing up for equality both within the Party and in the country.

It is clear that this is an important moment in Labour’s history. This is not a moment of celebration, but one of reflection. We cannot forget that a party of anti-racism and equality fell short and far from the standards we have always espoused.”
