Devastating news that the Pencoed level crossing Levelling Up funding bid has been rejected by the UK Tory Government.

Once again our area is being ignored by the Tories as they funnel money into already wealthy regions.

Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, said:

 “The Penprysg Road bridge project is totemic for many reasons. It’s construction would make the Pencoed level crossing safer, increase capacity on a vital railway line and drive economic growth. The decision by the UK Tory Government to reject the Levelling Up funding application is another sign they no nothing about our community.

“Staggeringly the places which have recieved Levelling Up funding have something strangely in common: Conservative seats in wealthier parts of the UK. If levelling up was to mean anything it was to mean money and power being invested in areas like ours, not more of the same.

After 13 years in power, the UK Tory Government has run out of steam. They are stuck in the past and cannot see the benefits of modernising key infrastructure and public services. We need to grow our way out of their mess. It’s clear that only a UK Labour Government working with the Welsh Labour Government have the vision and priorities to do so.”
