Chris Elmore, MP for Ogmore, has called on the UK Government to ensure that constituents who had holidays booked which were affected by the local lockdowns now in place are able to receive refunds.

In a letter jointly addressed to Transport Secretary Grant Shapps and Business Secretary Alok Sharma, Elmore, along with other Welsh Labour MPs, called on the UK Government to make it clear to airlines and travel companies that Welsh Government regulations carry the force of UK law. As such, those residents affected by local lockdowns must receive refunds or credit notices for flights and holidays they are now unable to take.

Chris Elmore MP said:

“I know Ogmore residents want to do the right thing and work together to stop the spread of the virus. Sadly, that means some families will miss out on long anticipated holidays through no fault of their own.

It is a matter of simple fairness that where this is the case travel companies and airlines work quickly to ensure their customers receive refunds or credit notices. The UK Government must step up and remind these operators of their legal responsibilities”.
